Nancy's Notes Living~
ENTERTAINING~
This is the first of a series of entertainment ideas, menus, centerpieces, table settings and much more! Yes, maybe even some funny stories! Do have them!
Okay, I'm in my Martha Stewart Mode, except I'll be Mini Martha~
Entertaining for me has always been exciting. The
I can truly say the time my hearts gets to beating is maybe right before guests arrive! Oh yes, feeling good and absolutely having the perfect outfit on is important. If I walk in the room and my husband says, " Wow" I know it's right! If he doesn't, I pout for a few and then get on with the last minute detail. Lights dimmed, oh a must is the perfect ambiance. Next, getting our pianist ready, yes, our faithful player piano is always on time! A must - you know! Check the hair, lipstick on!
Oh and then, a lovely part, Mr. Notes brings in a cocktail, there's a toast, enjoy a sip or two and then it happens, the doorbell rings. It's time to sparkle!
I have enjoyed having club meetings and serving brunch! Of course, some have been with several hostesses and some have been going solo! All fun~ Except the time I had some church ladies in for brunch and get this!! Okay, I used my silver coffee service and I don't use often, at all! Okay, picture this, first cup of coffee is poured into a pretty little china cup and out comes, along in the coffee, a spider, truth be known, it was a scorpion! Thank goodness, it was a sweet and dear friend, who was calm, cool and very collected pouring the coffee and she just excused herself for second! Now, that's what friends are for!
Okay, another tidbit about me. I love roaming around in book stores.I’d rather spend time in them then go clothes shopping! The only other shopping I love is looking for
I’m drawn to decorating, entertaining and cookbooks most of the time, unless it's an light and easy read that is full of delightful
It's creating, it's joy and sweet happiness, special times spent with family and friends.
Do you like to entertain?

Hello Nancy, spending time with family and friends is always special. Your place setting is lovely, Happy Anniversary.. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteI want to come to your house! Sounds like you throw a mean party. The most memorable one for me is the engagement party for my daughter. I was in a sling and swath and on pain meds. Ha! One week earlier, I had a bike accident and broke my arm in 4 places and tore a ligament in my thumb. I got it done though....including planting a few flowers in the flower bed. Lol!
ReplyDeleteNancy, you are the Hostess with the Mostess my friend. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteYour 25th anniversary table setting is lovely! I love to read books on entertaining too. Christmas Eve dinners are my favorite. We have friends and family- about 25. I can't wait to see more i your entertaining series!
ReplyDeleteSuch a thoughtful gift from your son, Nancy! Your 25th anniversary table is stunning... a grand cause for celebration no less! Look forward to reading more. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteBeautiful-25th Anniversary!!! I hosted a SIT DOWN dinner for SIXTY people many years ago. I cooked for a week and it was SO much fun and SO worth it. People still talk about it. I always liked to do BIG parties. I figured if I was going to all that work -it might as well be for a lot rather than a few. lol I don't entertain like I used to but hope to start getting back into it. I like the whole process, too--from start to finish--although the clean up is NOT my favorite. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI can vouch for every bit of this!
ReplyDeletePlus you are an excellent cook-
and fun, and gracious.

Entertaining is a hobby of mine too. I'm always looking on Pinterest and in books and magazines for new ideas and recipes. I really like to host teas, brunches and bbqs. I'm saving for a larger dining room table so we can have bigger sit down dinners. Looking forward to reading your ideas.
ReplyDelete....does this mean I'm invited?!!! I'll be there with bells on.
ReplyDeleteMini Martha....love the reference. But, I think they'd have to call me Midi Martha....need to lose more weight, I do.
I think there's something exhilarating about entertaining too. I love to have people into our home.. I do agree about shopping! Antiques or junk and books are the only shopping I can tolerate. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for coming by and taking the time to leave a comment. I love reading every one of them!
I'm so happy that I came by today, as I love this post!
Entertaining friends and family is so much fun! I can relate to so much of what you shared.
Being organized and having a plan is critical to successful entertaining!
My biggest feat every year is hosting Thanksgiving Dinner in our home. I make every single thing from scratch, and set an elegant atmosphere for this special occasion. I love it!
Thanks so much for sharing your lessons and adventures with us!
Have a wonderful week,
Suzanne
Entertaining is stressful but rewarding when it all comes together! Love that book and the special note inside:) SWEET! Have a blessed day dear Nancy, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your tips on entertaining. So much fun. Love your blog and thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteNot doing as much entertaining as I used to, but yes, it's exhilarating! From family celebrations to larger parties for friends, always my favorite thing to do. Will enjoy reading all your ideas, Nancy.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for commenting on my blog, there are so many of us, it's not easy to sort us all out. So pleased to find you!
Hi Nancy, kudos to you for entertaining. I can relate to the prep and the heart beating before the dinner party. I try to be really organized and we want everything perfect. I have had a few blunders over the past. One time, I had a dinner party down at the pool. The table was set for a tropical dinner. The guests walked down to the setting and I was busy doing the last minute prep One of my girlfriends came up and told me, there was No flatware on the table. I could have died! LOL. I did a wedding once for 150 guests and a beautiful candy bar.
ReplyDeleteNancy, we love to entertain also and indeed, one of our favorite parts is the drink we share right before the guests arrive....it is such a special feeling to know that others are coming into your home to enjoy it and you.
ReplyDeleteLovely post.
Barb
Nancy, what a great post! I love entertaining but I don't get to do it much at home. On the other hand, I do get to plan events like crazy at work. The biggest one was a luncheon with over 500 attendees. The stress with this one was the programming and it does get stressful. Sadly after working on programs like this I'm out of steam by the time I get back home but the day will come! Love the scorpion story! I bet Martha had a few moments when things have gone wrong but she has editors!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful 25th anniv. table. We love to entertain, too. :)
