Early Morning Thinking...Herbs

Well, I woke up Sunday morning...(remember those lyrics?)

thinking...

about my garden one plant in a pot, shhh of herbs.

Since we have been away, I needed to check on the poor little plant that I knew would dead.

Oh my gosh, it was not dead, it was thriving!
Okay, to me, it was thriving, alive and green is good.

There is just something about growing a plant from a seed.
I mean, me growing something from a seed.
Feeling of triumph.

Do you know what I mean, have you felt that feeling?

Oh my, I really hate to snip some off!

I am proud.

Have any of you ever tried herb gardening?

  1. Hi Nancy,
I know just what you mean! It feels so good to plant something and have it grow. I planted gladiolas for the first time this year and they actually grew! I was shocked and happy too. Thanks for your sweet comments too.
I see I already follow your blog but I am adding on again. For some reason I have to go back and add on again to get it to show up in my dashboard thingy.
    Have a great Sunday too!

So disappointing..we did manage to get some green small peppers early on. Have a great day, your herb looks lovely!

  9. I have been herb gardening for many years, and it actually is my favorite form of gardening. Snip it off; makes it grow bushier. Oh, and herbs don't mind being ignored. They rather like it.

  10. We had a hail storm of Biblical proportions this spring, and all my plants looked like they had been napalmed! Then our yard people weeded my beds, and they dug up my beautiful day lilies and shasta daisy plants. Not the lushest gardens I've ever produced. Your post gives me hope...I'm looking forward to cooler weather when I can replant and start again. Thanks for your kind words for my latest post. Cherry Kay

  11. Hi Nancy! Oh, I'm proud of you. I've grown flowers from seeds but many years ago. I love the feeling of going out and checking to see if it's popped up through the soil!!
Thanks for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  14. Hi Nancy Sweetie...
Oh my gosh. I have never tried herb growing. I don't have a lot of counter space in my kitchen and my island is already so full. I have always wanted to give it a try, but sadly you know how things go sometimes.

Your's however looks so HAPPY. It has a happy heart for sure. You keep snippin that Basil and Lord only knows how big it will get. Do you have a bigger pot? Looks like you just may need it.

I would definitely say you have a green thumb. I am clapping for you sweetie, can you hear me?

Have a gorgeous week sweet friend. I have signed up to follow your blog. I so love meeting new friends and sharing along the way. Thank you for stopping by Country Wings. I am so thrilled that you did.

    Many hugs sweetie...Sherry

  19. Hello Nancy
So nice of you to leave me such a sweet comment I really do appreciate you.
I tried herbs years ago and keep saying I am going to do a garden out here now that I live in the country but have not yet.
So happy yours did not die on you. It actually looks pretty darn healthy.
One herb I have tried several times but I think because I never planted in the ground it was rosemary and it would die on me every time. lol

  26. Hi Nancy! It seems like basil is one of the herbs that do well when it is warm. Mine grows everywhere but it is the first to go when it freezes....Christine

  28. Hi Nancy, So nice to meet you. You should be proud. Yes, it is a good feeling. I fight with deer and other critters all summer with my flower gardens and I've always wanted to try an herb garden. I do have chives in my flower garden and they do very well and spread like crazy. The deer hate them, thank goodness!

  29. Howdy!
I am entrusting my hose keepers with watering my herbs and plants every day while Mark and I are here in VA. So, I am praying I come home to plants that look nicer than when I water them when they look like they're almost dead, LOL!!
Your basil, alive, I'm sure, must have been a very happy sight! :)
    Happy herb gardening!!
    Hugs,
    ~me

  30. I meant to type "house" keepers, above, but then had a good laugh, because I realized, they are also keepers of the watering hose, and that sounded okay, too ;)

  33. The only thing I'm good at raising is cain. I've tried to raise herbs but sadly no luck.
One of the items on the Sweet Pea Bistro menu is tomatoe/basil/mozzarella on toasted bread. You'll have to try a little of yours this way...it's wonderful!

  34. I can completely identify with you, Nancy. I love to grow things. Watching the stages of growth from seed to plant is most fascinating.

Thanks for visiting the cottage. I'm sorry it took so long to come for a return visit. My Yankee and I are still touring New England and I don't have access to a computer often.

I just joined you as a follower and will visit again when I finally return home. If I ever get back! ;)

  36. Your basil is BEAUTIFUL, Nancy! I love to grow and use herbs. Since we moved to our current house, it has been very difficult... we are almost all shade. I do so miss having abundant herbs to cook with straight out of the garden!

  37. Look at that big, healthy basil plant! I grow herbs and basil is my favorite. The smell just reminds me of summer!
