The Only Weight Loss Aid You'll Ever Need...Self Love

The Only Weight Loss Aid You'll Ever Need, they say is self love, humm, I do love myself! That was or is not a problem! It's the love of good food.  Okay, after our Easter Feast of ham, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, stack salad, fruit salad, deviled eggs, yeast rolls, carrot and chocolate cake and wine to boot, I suppose I need some major loving of  myself. Somehow, that just does not cut it! Do you all know what I am talking about?

So bloggers, question for all of you, how do kick start your a diet or new way of dealing with great food? I always have a great little plan at the first of the year and that is to lose weight by my birthday. Okay, get this, my birthday is in two days!!! I need a huge kick start!

Have read this many times,  don't fight the hunger, respect it and respond...well, good grief, I'd be end up in the Guinness Book of World Records for not stopping! Don't want to be on that cover! That does not work for me, so will scratch that one right now!
I will be getting in a swimsuit soon, now that will be a fun little shocker! So, I know I won't look like a waif on the cover of Vogue, but would like to just look...a few pounds lighter!

Need kick start ideas! I have some that work for me, just curious about your ideas!

  1. I have always had to fight weight. I am a good twenty pounds over weight. Going through menopause certainly doesn't help. I can look at food and gain weight. I am not stressing over it now like I did when I was younger. I have always been around a size twelve to fourteen. Yuck, but that is where my body wants to be. I have been walking, using some weights and trying to cook healthier and smaller portions. If we would quit traveling I could lose it a lot easier. I wish I had a metabolism on super drive, but I don't.

  2. I few posts back I told about my daughter and I starting the South Beach diet. I've lost a few after one week, but we went off over Easter and probably gained it all back! LOL! The best way I've ever lost way is to count calories. Make sure I eat less calories than I use.

  3. Like Kim, menopause has been a real shock to my metabolism. I just don't burn off the calories like I used to and the meno-middle is soft where it used to be muscle. I could go on and on but for me, I'm an exerciser. I need it and crave it and the socialization part of it is what keeps me motivated. Without my gym buddies, I'd be at home.

What I do find that helps me feel better is that I eat a very high fiber diet. Lots of fruits and veggies and flax every morning in my cereal.

Now that we almost have an empty nest, and the daughter that is here, is not always here for meals, I still tend to overcook. I need to get over that.

  4. I am going to be checking back here and reading all the posts for help!!! I know for me to lose any weight it is count calories and the basics of protein, veggies and fruit. And count, count and count. I have to journal and write every thing down. It shouldn't be this much work but it just doesn't come off or should I say even stay the same unless everyday I make a point of it. Ugh, getting older isn't for wimps!

  5. I am the wrong person to ask. I don't diet. Not that I don't need to diet. I am way too fat. I am not comfortable with how I look. But I love food way more than I want to be thinner. Plus every time I think I need to diet, I actually eat more. So I don't even try.

  6. I think we all feel guilty after sitting down to a wonderful holiday meal when we are trying to lose weight. I tell myself that it was only one day and that my weight does not define who I am. I am so much more than a number on a scale. Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a nice comment. I hope you will come back for another visit!

  7. Self love is really the best way I have found...you have to love yourself first and realize that taking care of yourself is more important than food...food is for nutrition to your body...not for entertainment...which in our society is a hard thing...I lost over 70 lbs last year after struggling for years with my weight...I worked out...starved myself in the past and would yoyo up and down...when I got my head straight...it all fell into place...I hope this helps...

  9. Diet? What diet? :) I feel a little guilty too after stuffing my tiny face. We just cut back and try to eat more healthy and balanced. I don't diet much, I should. I'm so very short but in the last few years I've lost 10 or so pounds and for that I'm grateful.
Thank you for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,
    shelia ;)

  10. Yep... I think Deb's got it!! I think I'll have to meditate on that a bit to allow it to soak in but that may be one of the best "starts" I've read. Thanks, Deb!

  11. I am 2 weeks in a diet & going strong :) It is hard though! I keep a little journal where I write down my calories & then I journal in there too. target has a cute little LIBERTY's brand mini journal set & they work perfect & are so pretty! It helps me to write a list of reasons to lose & then a plan how to lose. Then I just journal how I did or how i feel & I write a lot of inspirational sayings...I LOVE Hebrews 12:11 bible verse for losing weight :) It helps me in all areas of my life but I like it for this! I also like to just tell myself when I am faced with a temptation, "Choose skinny." But I have more than a few pounds to lose so I should be getting advice from you!!! :) I hope it goes well!!! You can do it!

  12. I am a pretty much on a diet and being great or... just the opposite! Can't seem to ever find the balance. Been awhile since I was "ON" I used to wonder about women who used menopause as an excuse... Now I get it! I do find I feel better when I exercise, just finding the time... back to balance I guess.
Thanks for stopping by and good luck!

  13. In 85 or 86 I went on "Fit For Life". It was a new way of eating. The book was the #1 seller for months. I lost 30 pounds in 2 months and felt like a million. When I need to loose weight I go by that book again. You don't eat any thing but fruit and fruit juices at breakfast or until 12 noon. If you eat meat you can't have starches. No eggs or dairy products. The fruit you can have for snacks at night and nuts. It is really a good way of eating. Of course I had to have some cheese some of the time. I'm a cheese lover.
Thats my idea and that self love is also good.
    Hugs, Pat

  14. Nancy I was scared into mine last year by my high B/P. I lost 45 pounds in 6 months and plan to keep it off for the rest of my life. This is just the way we eat now. Super healthy foods all the way for me. It feels great! :)

  20. Greetings, I love this post and so understand what you are saying cause at 58 the lbs just don't drop off like they used to. So I've started a new way of eating, due to a fatty liver, but have given up all sugar, sweets and processed foods thus adding tons more vege's and some fruit-cause fruit will turn to fat as well. I'm on vacation and having a bit of a tough time getting enough vege's but I"m trying-plus it is so much healthier without sugar.
Good luck....high five for giving it your all.

  21. Hi Nancy, I am new to your blog and it is so funny because this very morning a good friend and myself were hashing over this very subject. I usually start with baby steps. Like more water and stop eating before 7:00 and then I start cutting back and adding exercise in the form of walking. I obviously am not very successful because I have 50lbs to lose. Age does make it harder but health issues should be a good reason. I also think it is good to be held accountable to someone. I am not very disciplined. I am with you on this one, trust me, Kathysue

  22. Well it seems we all have the same problem with dieting. Food! I do love the wrong kind of foods and that is my biggest problem.
I don't over eat I just eat wrong.
Okay what could we all do to jumpstart a diet so it would work for everyone. Maybe I should do a post a week with scales and everyone has to weigh in and tell their weight last week and then this week. You think this would get us motivated. I am willing if you all are
    Love

  23. Nancy, Thanks for stopping by to visit & see my Swap Gifts I have been sweating over for weeks! Oh I know what you mean about the weight! It is sooooooooooo eash to put on & soooooooooooo hard to take off. My hubby has been doing the raw honey & cinnamon bit & it seems to be helping him. ????? He got this email from our friends in France talking about it & all the cures from weight loss to arthritis, to high blood pressure. So he drinks 2 TBL of cinnamon & 2 TBLS of RAW honey in hot water every morning. He has cut down on the # of cokes he drinks & is not having his usual wine (I think the last two items are the biggest help but, hey if he thinks it's the cinnamon & he's loosing more power to him) Good Luck with your tricks for kick starting. Charlene

  24. I'm sorry but I don't believe in diets. I do believe in smaller portions, drinking more water, making sure I eat nutritional calories and, as silly as this sounds...I use a smaller plate so the portions look larger.
I weigh myself every morning and that helps keep the weight going down a few ounces at a time.
Weight coming off fast means it comes back on fast.

  26. Have you seen me?!?! I am the last person to be giving any advice for losing weight...it always seems to find me...even when I take it for a long drive to the country!
Just wanted to drop by and say thank you for the visit. Laura is a doll isn't she? I adore her writing and getting to meet her at Warrenton was one of the highlights for me.

  27. Hi, I just found your blog via Texas Blogging Gals. I have been dieting since Jan. I have lost 29.5 pounds so far. I am doing weight watchers(counting points) Im just doing it on my own and I weigh in once a week. This diet works best for me because I can eat regular foods. I went off of the diet Easter weekend and still lost 1/2 pound last week! I just got myself back on track that Monday. I write everything down, I feel lost when I dont. Everyone has to do what works best for them and this works for me! Good luck and its nice to meet you! I hope you will drop by my blog for a visit sometime too! Happy Sunday!
