Nancy's Notes Living - Kitchen

Welcome to Nancy's Notes Living!

Today let's gather in the kitchen, pour yourself a cup of coffee and come along for the tour!

Should I use silver service?
No-

A casual and very cute little set...
No-

Yes, this is it!
It's my daily stuff....

Sorry, no time to bake this coffee cake, but I'll share~
This was pirated from The Pioneer Woman!

The Best Coffee Cake. Ever.

(I'm getting to the tour in just a minute, just wanted to give your something delicious that you can try at home!)
Prep Time:

Difficulty:
 Easy

Ingredients

  •  FOR THE CAKE:
  • 1-1/2 stick Butter, Softened
  • 2 cups (scant) Sugar
  • 3 cups Flour, Sifted
  • 4 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1-1/4 cup Whole Milk
  • 3 whole Egg Whites, Beaten Until Stiff
  •  FOR THE TOPPING:
  • 1-1/2 stick Butter, Softened
  • 3/4 cups Flour
  • 1-1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Cinnamon
  • 1-1/2 cup Pecans, Chopped

Preparation Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Beat egg whites and set aside.
Cream butter and sugar. Add flour mixture and milk alternately until combined. Don't overbeat. Fold in beaten egg whites with a rubber spatula. Spread in a well-greased 9 x 13 (or LARGER!) baking pan. A cake pan with higher sides would be best.
In a separate bowl, combine topping ingredients with a pastry cutter until crumbly. Sprinkle all over the top.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until no longer jiggly. Serve warm---delicious!

Ready for the tour?

Looking in from the family room.

Those under the counter lights are a tad bit bright, guess the photographer had her flash on again! Sigh...
But they
sure do light up my
counter top stuff
vignette's~

Love this copper pitcher...

A few touches from Mackenzie Child's collection.

Don't look at the roosters on those Pier One Canisters...
from front of kitchen, you can't see the roosters.
Don't ask!

Some cookbooks to add to the kitchen ambiance and those lemons...
They've traveled many a mile!!

I fell in love with this aluminum plate plate the instant I saw it!

I try to keep the cookie jar filled.
The Oreo's are gone again...oh wait, there's a crumb!

Ahhh....be still my heart. More Mackenzie Child treasures.

Oh, here's the breakfast room and again Mackenzie Childs placemats, they last forever!
Wipe and go!
I like to add different colored placemats under them.

This Copper pot, grabbed it up, was in my cart, in my car in a flash.
For pennies too!

My desk downstairs.
When Mr. Notes watches TV downstairs - I head upstairs!
I know, you know.

I need my space and it takes total concentration when I'm working on my blog~

Little treasures-
Funny story.
When my mom sees things that were hers, like these mugs on top shelf,...
she'll say, when did I give you these? LOL
I have some beautiful things that she has given to me.
Anything that's hers, I cherish.

Oh my, don't look at the family room yet! That's going to be in next installment!

We enjoy the breakfast bar and so do the grandkids!
Something about being up high, right?

See the border? Hummmm
I just don't look up!

I do like the window coverings...
I didn't pick out, but thankfully, I'm okay with them!

Recognize that Ethan Allen table? Humpteen hundred years old.
It's not antique - pretty close to vintage.

Little marks our kids made while doing homework, I love the marks now!

Okay, CLOSE UP of the wallpaper we inherited!

It's this border....

Seriously, I thinking this has got to go.
I just don't look up and I'm okay then.

What do you think?
I've heard wallpaper is back-
Maybe keep the wallpaper and get rid of the border.
Decisions- Decisions!

Paint?
Think an entire re-do?
Not anytime soon.
Besides, I'm in no hurry for any major changes, enough changes in my body! Ekk
And anyway, we don't do things fast around here...last movie we saw was Ben Hur!

Well, hope you enjoyed the little tour!

  8. Love the tour (I'm nosy!). I did a lot of wallpapering in the 90's. It is possible the border will come off without ruining the background paper but you need to find out if they actually applied it over the wallpaper and that the wallpaper goes all the way to the top. I kind of think borders are not so much in vogue (if you will) but I am seeing wallpaper making a comeback here and there. I swore it off after having to remove too much of it! Your home is beautiful (I take it it's new to you?). Love the big spaces. I love MacKenzie Childs- the checkered pattern is a favorite. Rooster- what roosters? LOL... Hey they are always in style.
I especially like the lights over the island those are great! Waiting for part 2!!

  10. Nancy, I've been wanting a black and white checkered tea pot for years! Wherever did you find that? I don't know where to begin because I love your kitchen so much. The lemon jar is so pretty, and I love anything lemons, dessert and all. The aluminum plate is gorgeous. And the copper pot is lovely with the green plant inside. Yes, children's marks on a table are a sign of a loved table, indeed.

Nancy, thank you for giving us a peek into your kitchen. This really inspired me because at our new home I have smoky grey countertops, and I thought white would be the only color that goes well with it, but I see this black and white checkered with splashes of red and it looks so charming. You truly have a wonderful home, my friend.

  20. I so enjoyed my tour! Lovely. I know exactly what you mean about 'not embracing change'! I'm quite content with things as they are...and am not one to change things up too easily.

Thanks for stopping by 'My Front Porch'!

  21. Nancy, thanks for the tour. Sweet kitchen! I have undercabinet lighting, too, and love it; but it does not do nice things for photos. Next time I'll have a cup of coffee, but only if it's decaf. You don't want to see me on regular coffee! :D
