Are you all now just sitting on the edge of your seats? Are you ready to scroll down and read about what you think is a mundane subject? Well, I bet that you too will be all be calling yellow your favorite color very soon! ARe you ready to be captivated and totally charmed, I mean really, you could actually think you've been bewitched!

Ladies and Gents... Introducing the most impressive color ever!

 YELLOW

Come in and I'll show you a world class color!

You'll first be happy to know...

Yellow is found between green and orange.

And Yellow is commonly associated with gold, wealth, sunshine, reason, happiness, optimism and pleasure

And did you know that the  painter Vincent van Gogh was a particular admirer of the color yellow, the color of sunshine. Writing to his sister from the south of France in 1888, he wrote, "Now we are having beautiful warm, windless weather that is very beneficial to me. The sun, a light that for lack of a better word I can only call yellow, bright sulfur yellow, pale lemon gold. How beautiful yellow is!"

Heavens, did you know that Van Gogh painted sunflowers inside a small house he rented at 2 Place Lamartine, a house painted what Van Gogh called "buttery yellow?"

I know you know this! Van Gogh was one of the first artists to use commercially-manufactured paints, rather than paints he made himself. He used the traditional yellow ochre, but also chrome yellow, first made in 1809, and cadmium yellow, first made in 1820.[11]

Get this...The first recorded use of canary yellow as a color name in English was in 1789

Do you know that the complementary color of yellow is violet; the two colors are opposite each other on the color wheel long used by painters

Of course, Yellow, as the color of sunlight, is commonly associated with warmth. Yellow combined with red symbolized heat and energy.

Well, absolutely a room painted yellow feels warmer than a room painted white, and a lamp with yellow light seems more natural than a lamp with white light!

  5. Hi Nancy,

You don't have to convince me; I also LOVE yellow for all the reasons you mentioned in this wonderful tribute post to the happiest colour on the wheel, and one that makes me smile, whether it's looking at baby chicks on blogs, the buttery hues of my home, (both interior and exterior!), the fragrant freesia in my garden or the two sunny-side yolks that I enjoy on weekends!:)))

  6. I do love natural yellow of goldfinches and daffodils and dandelions, and even like the pale yellow on the exterior of our house. But I'm totally weary of the pale yellow in my kitchen and am going for something different. HOWEVER, I do love your yellow photos, especially that gorgeous yellow door on the cottage! That is amazing! And I do think that yellow is such a cheering color!

  11. Great post Nancy. I have the love for yellow too. I live in a yellow house and I painted the majority of it's interior walls a soft yellow as well. I think that yellow makes my antique and vintage pieces really pop. It is hard to photograph though. xo, olive

  15. What a FUN post! I have a yellow/blue powder room on our mail floor. When MyHero and I moved into our first little house right after we got married there was a small sunny room off the master bedroom that I envisioned with a baby in it. I got pregnant and just a year later we had that baby girl...and that little nursery was painted soft yellow with filmy, sheer yellow Priscilla curtains and yellow and white carpeting. I don't have a single picture of that room and I just loved it....xo Diana

  29. Wow you've turned yellow into an "art form" with these awesome shots. I loved them all (and yellow isn't my favorite of colors). I was particularly fond of the Yellow Field with the trail through it, the yellow bicycle and flowers and the yellow barn (that's one you don't see often). Wasn't to fond though of those yellow stairs, also something you don't see often.

  34. I was thinking about your post on YELLOW this morning . . . (thought I had commented, guess not) and realized I had not seen Nanc's Notes pop up in my Bloglovin for a few days . . . I remembered info about chemo shot and home showing and began to wonder if my sweet Texan Nancy was feeling okay? Or if you sold your home and moved . . . (seriouly doubt the moving part).

    Just thinking of you . . . hope all is well . . .
