Vintage Cookook Illustrations...

On of my favorite treasures is my Vintage Betty Crocker Cookbook, copyright 1959 by General Mills, Inc.  It's Betty's guide to "Easy Entertaining>" What fascinates me about this particular cookbook is the wonderful illustrations by Peter Spier and Betty Crocker's commanding advice~

Best Wishes for many relaxed hours of entertaining~

  9. Nancy- What was wonderful, "sisterly" advice in its day is now comical for us. Treat the "crashing bore" as if he were fascinating and maybe....maybe what? Maybe he will continue to regale you with more boring ancedotes? lol

Love the old cookbook-it's a keeper! Hugs- Diana

  11. I love this cookbook! I was born in the 50's so anything from that era just fascinates me.

I was gifted with a National Geographic from the month/year I was born and the advertisements are a hoot! Companies were trying to recruit people to move to California- the land of opportunity. Funny how times change.

  16. I always enjoy reading old cook books and books about customs and manners. My mum had a book given to her as a young bride, and it has an entire section devoted to the etiquette of calling cards.

  21. Hi Nancy,
Old cookbooks are fun for so many reasons. Often the food is a little strange for todays tastes, but the illustrations just charm me. Innocent and sentimental, lovely!
Thanks for dropping by earlier, hope you have a great weekend.

  22. I, too, have this book and just love to sit and read it for fun. The manners and customs of the 50's remind me of Leave It To Beaver and I'll bet June read this book too!

  23. In the "olden" days, people were so much more concerned with manners. I love seeing the "rules of etiquette" in old books. The illustrations are so simple, too. And the recipes are such fun. How great to have these books.
