I stood there in total awe...
I had always wanted to see this mysterious painting that I had heard about all of my life. I've always been fascinated with the mystery of the Mona Lisa.
There are so many theories surrounding her that
no one will ever know the true meaning of her creation. But, it continues to be said, she knows something we don't.

The Mona Lisa (La Gioconda or La Joconde, or Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo[1]) is a half-length portrait of a woman by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci, which has been acclaimed as "the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world."[2]
The painting, thought to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Francesco del Giocondo, is in oil on a poplar panel, and is believed to have been painted between 1503 and 1506.[1] It was acquired by King Francis I of France and is now the property of the French Republic, on permanent display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.[1] The ambiguity of the subject's expression, frequently described as enigmatic,[3]
the monumentality of the composition, the subtle modeling of forms and
the atmospheric illusionism were novel qualities that have contributed
to the continuing fascination and study of the work.[1]

About 6 million people view the painting at the Louvre each year and I'm sure the fascination will continue forever and ever.

I remember standing in front of the Mona Lisa, me and about 10,000 of my traveling companions ... marveling at the fact that I was actually standing in front of the Mona Lisa!! I did this pretty much all the way through Paris, you understand.
ReplyDeleteThis was before digital photography, so I have actual negatives and prints of a similar photo, tucked away somewhere.
