Nothing like the summer sky...
I took my camera out last evening to catch the sun going down and I got the Moon!
I am so very fascinated with Sun and the Moon!
I am so very fascinated with Sun and the Moon!
I love watching the sky, I marvel at the Moon and it's changes.
Features of the Moon
Perhaps the most prominent features of the Moon are its numerous craters. Its surface has been bombarded continually throughout its history. Since the Moon has no measurable atmosphere and no liquid water, there is no erosion taking place. This has preserved the many thousands of craters on its surface. Another prominent feature on the Moon are the smooth areas called maria. The maria are believed to have been formed by more recent lava flows which have covered over the older craters. There are also many mountain ranges and rift valleys on the Moon's surface. All of these features have combined to form a unique facial feature known as the "Man in the Moon" that can be seen if one knows what to look for. This feature is visible every night of the year because the Moon always keeps its same face towards the Earth. This is because its period of rotation and revolution are the same; 29 days, 12 hours and 44 minutes. This cycle is known as the lunar month as seen from Earth. As the Moon orbits the Earth, it appears to change shape as more or less of its sunlit side is visible. When the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun, it appears as a full moon. When it is on the same side, it is invisible, also known as a new moon. Since it is so close to the Earth, the Moon's gravity pulls on our oceans and creates the tides.

Beautiful Post!
ReplyDeleteI, too, love the moon. I used to live in Florida and there is NOTHING like that big old Southern moon hanging low in the sky. I was almost disappointed when they put men on the moon because it took away some of that romantic mystery. I know....I know....I am a hopeless romantic! lol Thanks for the beautiful post- Diana
ReplyDeleteI too love the moon. The October moon takes my breath away. When it first comes into veiw it seems flattened and on fire, so close you could gather it up in your hands.
ReplyDeleteVery nice post.
I just saw your message, thank you for writing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! That reminds me of that scene in 'Joe Versus the Volcano' when Tom Hanks is drifting in the middle of the ocean. He sees the moon, falls to his knees, and thanks God for his life. Nothing like the moon to remind us of His constant presence, even in the dark of night.
ReplyDeleteI love the moon especially!
ReplyDeleteCome over to my Christmas blog! I have a giveaway that is just for today!

Loved this post, Nancy! I never tire of looking at the sunset and the moonrise...I'm always saying "Look at that!" when I see it all big and beautiful...my poor kids! (they appreciate it too, though!)
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to get a good moon shot with the camera (I know...I try all the time!), so well done!
So grateful that God not only created everything for us, but that HE loved us so much that He made it all so beautiful for us to enjoy every day...]
Hope you have a beautiful and peaceful Sunday!
Julie

Hasn't that moon been spectacular the last few nights. We were on a camp out with the Grands and I shot a few pics through the trees, too. Can't wait to see how the turned out....as good as yours I hope. Beautiful. Great capture.
Girl these are some amazing shots you got. Reminded me of the movie with Jacob and Edward fighting over that silly Bella....I can't imagine her having such a hard time deciding on a Vampire or a Weir Wolf.
ReplyDeleteSeriously this is a great post.
Thank you for always checking on me and leaving me encouraging get well wishes.
Love
Maggie
I love the night sky! Beautiful photos of the moon. God's creation certainly is magnificent. As a kid, our house had a stairway to the roof. We would lie on the roof and look at the stars. I was fascinated then and still to this day.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and love,
Debbie
The moon must have been especially lovely because several blogs are featuring it today! You got some nice shots of it!
ReplyDeleteI love shots like these...to me they are priceless...thanks for sharing the moment. Debbie
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are beautiful and thanks for the lesson as well. My camera isn't quite powerful enough to get good moon shots, maybe with my next upgrade:)
ReplyDeleteRemember the song, Somewhere Out There...I think it was from a Disney movie about mice...not sure. Anyway, it was a beautiful song about knowing that we look at the same moon no matter where we are.
ReplyDeleteYour moon shots are beautiful. I stood on my front porch last night and watched the moon too.
Penny
