Container Gardening...a great idea for my husband! Right?

Okay friends, my husband has been told by his physical therapist to find a hobby! He's really loving the one he has. Watching TV.

HMJ!

Well, I am thinking he might like to grow tomatoes. So, I thought a container garden is a genius way to get him outside to grow some vegetables and maybe some herbs. RIGHT?

Simple? Yes!

When it warms up, we will head to Home Depo. (Poor guy gets white knuckled when I drive.)

My thoughts....

MAYBE?

I DO LIKE THIS ONE!

 Possibility.

I LIKE THIS IDEA TOO!

Will see when it's time to plant.
I'm going to get him a copy of Farmer's Almanac.

I'm trying to get him to play scrabble too!
Nope...not happening.

Art...you know, those new color books for big people?
He tried.
Lasted less than a minute.

(I like it, it's a huge stress reliever.)

Emptying the dishwasher...
I know, I won't push it!

Have a wonderful day and keep warm, friends! I hear there is a winter storm brewing out there!

xo

  1. Good Morning Nancy,
I agree, gardening in containers is a wonderful way to nurture and inspire the soul!
When we lived in our apartment, while building our home, I gardened on our little balcony-now that really did save my soul and made me more content!!
    Sending loving thoughts your way,
    xo

  2. Absolutely! You can even raise the containers to an easy height to work with if that helps your husband. I bet he'd really like it.

  5. My husband's hobby is gardening (I call him the gardener on this blog) and I know it's very good for him, plus I do enjoy the vegetables and flowers. And his are all in boxes above ground. Hope your husband catches the joy of it!

  6. Nancy I laughed and I think your husband and my husband are twins. John's back is out, so instead of doing anything creative or productive he's watching movies. Men! But I have to say he hurt his back working hard on remodeling the center part of our basement. Hopefully your husband will fall in love with gardening. Yup a real blizzard arriving this evening and lasting into Sunday. Heard whispers of 2 feet expected in Philly. Yikes! Guess there will be more movies watched this weekend.

  7. Hopefully you can get him interested in doing something rather than sitting and watching TV, that would drive me insane.
Glad to see that you are back blogging again, I've missed your blogs. Need to go back and see what I have missed.
I had such a busy last three months that I hardly had time to turn around. When you get older it take so much time to do things.
Take care of your self and honey.

  10. I think the container gardening might be a possibility for "nancy notes mister" . . .
    Key word . . . MIGHT . . .
Our helpful ideas seem to not sound as helpful to our spouse . . .
I imagine this could present some challenges . . .
    I know . . . hook a rug together . . .
    NOT???

  11. How about a jigsaw puzzle....so thing you both can piddle around with for a little while and walk away come then come back later. We stayed at a bread and breakfast that always had one going...kept guest occupied and talking to each other very casually....

  14. Nancy we are in the same place in life and we might even be sharing a husband. The Great Dane finds reading on his tablet to be a fine hobby. It's a challenge to find a substitute.....good luck!

  18. Well I do hope that he finds something enjoyable to do besides watching tv. I doubt that I'd be able to come up with something for my darling. He'd balk at every turn.

  19. Nancy - Good luck with that one! LOL John always had a mind of his own when I suggested things like that.

  24. Nancy, I cannot remember where you're located but in April, the VA Fly Fishing Festival is being held outside Richmond. I'm going, have paid and signed up for classes...woohoo! Gardening is a great hobby but, for me anyway, it's work to put food on the table and in jars. I want a hobby that's sheer pleasure!

  25. Nancy, another thought...don't wait until it's time to plant...Baker Seed Catalog is out as a book, $10 at the $ store or Sam's...and shows beautiful, heirloom veggies and fruits. It's enough to make anyone want to plant a few seeds!

  26. I am SO lucky, I can't keep my hubby from doing so many things. He is always busy with something! Really, both of us never stop, but we both enjoy it. I LOVE container gardening, maybe your hubby will get into it. It is so therapeautic getting my hands in the dirt and creating beauty.
