A Special Art ...

The Art of Finding Something to Wear...

Do you often look in your closet and hear the coat hangers swish back and forth? (my husband can hear it from a mile away and seems to always ask, "what's wrong?" Grrr)

Do you often find it a challenge to find something that fits perfect?

Do you find that your clothes last longer than that youthful spirit you had when you bought them?

Some garments keep their appeal for months, years...then one day, their style expires and you know it!

Really good clothes can turn matronly within weeks.

Remember the long beautiful skirt and sequined top you bought on sale and loved instantly, looked like an archeological find a month later.

Funny how the end of a style is sudden.

If you insist on wearing that outfit that has lost it's style, you run the risk of looking and feeling frumpy. (Right?)

Our closets are full, yet we can't find the "right" thing to wear.

Look in your closet, each garment surely reminds you of a moment in your very personal history.

Clothes you bought last week, you no longer care for. You wonder what got into you. What were you thinking?

Don't worry if you don't wear a fraction of what you own. Without them, you would not have picked out the few outfits that, you now feel, best captures the real you!

Right?

(for me, same black pants...same black blouse?)

  1. Hitting that nail on the head, Nancy! lol Yep. Same black pants and same black blouse.. that's me. Always ready for a funeral. (Remember taht from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"?) I just had a thought... I bet I look a plump, dark raisin in my black outfits. The thinking that black is slenderizing may not be so true. Yikes! ???

  3. Oh my that is so funny and so true! Now that I don't work I have fewer clothes and mostly jeans and tshirts for around the house. Still now when I try to find something 'nice' nothing looks good to me. Grrr is right. I am trying to weed out the clothes so I can really see what I have that I will wear. Another thing on my to do list! hugs, Linda

  5. YES!!! It is hard to turn loose of things - at least for me! For January 1st I wore the same black sweater with sequined stars I have had since 2000! I STILL get compliments on it. It just so happened it was brand new with original price tags on it when I purchased it at a local Goodwill!
I have a ton of stuff I never wear and should throw out! HELP me, someone!!

  8. I know in the morning I will be facing this! There is one problem, I think over the holidays they also shrunk! Outdated clothes and too small. Yes, it will be the tight black pants and black sweater!

  9. My closet is so full, you can't hear anything swish! A good cleaning is in order! I have about ten each of black pants and black turtlenecks and brown pants and brown turtlenecks and even a few gray sets. These are my don't think, just put them on outfits! I have tons of jackets and sweaters, so at least if I throw one of those over my basic black/brown or gray I get a different look.

  10. That is why 75% of my clothes come from thrifty places. If you pay three or four dollars for a top or jeans it is not terrible to replace them or cast them aside. And I buy nice name brand clothes too form thrift stores and consignment stores. Thanks bunches for visiting me and have a terrific New Year. I know you are beautiful whatever you wear!

  11. Same here: "a closet-full-of-clothes-and-nothing-to-wear" syndrome! Going through my closet(s) is high on my To Do List for this month. After getting rid of all the things that:
    a) don't fit and never will
    b) fit, but I hate the way I look in them
    c) I just don't like!
I'll have about 10 things in my closet(s)! I'm a BIG fan of consignment stores, too. Such wonderful bargains!

  12. Hi Nancy,
I finally went through my closet and donated just about everything in it! You know those clothes that you were just talking about. It's hard to do because you know you paid a bunch, but after they hang there for three years and are never worn, it's time to go! LOL!

For me it's now jeans, tops, jackets and boots.

    hugs
    Sissie
